Advantages

ELIMINATES HEAT LOSS
Continuous insulation. With ISOFOIL, undesirable heat transfer zones, called thermal bridges, are eliminated, keeping heat inside.

HARNESS RADIANT ENERGY
Reflective membrane. ISOFOIL’s integrated reflective membrane harnesses heat generated by multiple sources of energy in a building. With several assemblies tested and in accordance with requirements, different installation options are available to increase overall comfort in the basement.

CREATES A BARRIER AGAINST MOISTURE
Vapour barrier product. In addition to insulating walls, ISOFOIL prevents moisture in a building from reaching the cold concrete, condensing and potentially causing structural problems as well as the development of mold.

INSTALLATION : TWO STEPS IN ONE
Reduced material and labour costs. By combining a rigid insulation panel and a reflective vapour barrier membrane into one product, installing a vapour barrier polyethylene sheet is no longer required. Insulation installation and sealing is fast and facilitated.

Continuous insulation

  • Stable and permanent insulation value.
  • Helps achieve high energy efficiency.
  • Improves comfort in the basement.
  • Can be used as insulation for the interior of above-ground walls or ceilings.

Reflective membrane

  • Reflects 95% of radiant energy.
  • Transfers the heat released by energy sources such as lighting.
  • Increases heating savings and comfort levels.
  • Maximum energy loss reduction.

Vapour barrier product

  • Creates a continuous vapour-barrier insulation.
  • Interior vapour barrier is easy to seal.
  • Melds with imperfections in the concrete, reducing the risk of condensation and the development of mold.
  • Highly efficient vapour barrier, with water vapour permeability of <15 ng (type 1).

Reduced material and labour costs

  • Reduces material and labour costs.
  • Tested assemblies: facilitates job completion and ensures peace of mind.
  • Optimal format to minimize joints and waste.
  • Resistant to handling damage and reduces losses.

THE FIRST. THE MOST INSTALLED.

A market innovation, ISOFOIL was the first product designed for the insulation of foundation walls in Eastern Canada to incorporate a reflective vapour barrier membrane. Ideal for energy-efficient buildings, it is currently one of the most-installed rigid insulation in new-building basements in Quebec. It is the first and only such product to have obtained a CCMC report and to have as many tested assemblies, including the reflective effect.

Compliance & Certifications

ISOFOIL allows you to easily meet building code and construction requirements for energy-efficient construction standards, such as Energy Star and Passive House.

  • CAN/ULC-S701 – Type 1
  • CCMC # 13459-R: Effective thermal resistance of specific assemblies
  • Certified low-chemical-emission product:
    GREENGUARD – UL 2818, GREENGUARD Gold – UL 2818

Can contribute to obtain LEED credits.
Compliance Certification is available upon request

Installation

ISOFOIL product is quick and easy to install.
To ensure maximum insulating performance, make sure the installation follows the recommended practices.

  1. Choose only from assemblies that are requirement-compliant.
    • Renovation : Make sure to address cracks or water infiltration issues before starting the job.
  2. Install insulation vertically on the wall, reflective side inward.
  3. Seal all joints with a reflective vapour barrier tape.
  4. Seal the joints at openings, floors and ceilings with a sealant (acoustical sealant, etc.) so that there is no air gap between the concrete wall and the insulation.
  5. Depending on the chosen assembly, position the 1″ x 3″ furring strips at 16″ or 24″ o/c, or install the structure in front of it.
    • Ensure that the air spaces created by the furring strips or the structure are sealed at the top, bottom and around openings to prevent air leaks.
  6. Fasten the insulation mechanically, using a concrete nail if required.
    • The nail should penetrate about 1″ into the concrete.
  7. Leave a space of about 1/4″ to 1/2″ between the concrete floor and the furring strips.
  8. Cover with a thermal barrier (gypsum).

A comfortable basement

Keep your basement warm in winter and cool and dry in summer

Airtightness in the Ontario Building Code

Achieve airtightness and choose the basement walls insulation requirement susbstitution.
Depending on your chosen package and the zone you are in, insulation requirements for basement walls can change, but continuous insulation is still a requirement in the OBC. Choose our R15 continuous insulation ISOFOIL when airtightness is reached and take advantage of its reflective effect for increased comfort in the basement. Easy to install, several assemblies are CCMC certified, yours to pick the one that best fits your construction.

The installation must be carried out according to the tested and selected assembly. To guarantee code compliance, the product must not be substituted by an equivalent.
